First attempt to print RepWalker

I have printed the second RepWalker mutant already. To keep the old ones on it's claws I have designed a servo dummy. With this you can replace the functional servos and still displaying the RepWalker.

In 69 days we have the German MAKER Fair here in Hannover where I would like to display all RepWalker Mutants.

I want to upload at the Download page as servo attachment optional parts when you think it's mostly complete.

I can't imagine "To keep the old ones on it's claws I have designed a servo dummy." Old one is the gearmotor one ?

I have printed your original once. I also have two Mutants with my servo design on the desk. But this design is obsolete already. So I will start printing the third mutant tonight. For this I need the working servos.

I hope I will receive 6 new servos from Hobby king soon...
And gear motors from Japan...

By the way - as I was a child - around 1970 - I got a green plastic tugboat kit with a working fire sprinkler pump - this kit was "Made in Japan" for us Germans the "Made in Japan" was like the "Made in China" around 2000 - and if you could ask some people from 1900 in England than it was the "Made in Germany" what shocked the people. Everything is changing...

It's interesting theme !
"Made in China" will be like "Made in Germany" and "Made in Japan" or not.

Modern productions were made by machine. But, as you know, human use machine.
I think, it's mean production is related with culture. Example, can allow little error or not, can allow cheap copy or not.

So, if "Made in China" will be like us, the culture should be change.
For changing, I think they have to make country which it is rich, healthy, safety and freedom country at first. It's may need more century.

But, I don't think "best quality and creativite production" = "best seller production".
It's a reason I can't despise "Made in China".
Please see the back side of your mouse. In my case, Made in China !

I respect the price of "Made in China".
And, I respect the quality of "Made in Germany".
And, I'm Japanese so I don't want to say large voice, but I respect the friendly design of "Made in Japan".

Every electric creature needs a power switch. I choose a rectangular switch which you can source here in Germany for 70 ct. I integrated it in the bottom of my servo-mount. This location does not influence the rest of the design possibilities.

To try out the snap in function I only printed the switch section. After this test I changed the dimension a little bit. My goal is to assemble the RepWalker with as little rework as necessary.

The printout also shows what happens if the inner radius of a wall does not correspond with the outer radius. The wall thicknes here is 2.4 mm = 4x 0.6 mm. The inner radius is 1 mm. In the printout above the outer radius was also 1 mm. So you get some empty space without binding in this section.

In the picture below I changed the outer radius from 1 mm to 1 mm inner radius + 2.4 mm wall thickness = 3.4 mm. This gives a homogeneous wall structure:

Hello friends,
tonight I finished the chassis of the RepWalker RA03 mutant. With this everything fits together as it should. Next will be to design an Arduino mount, a support for pumper switches at the front and at least the connection beams to the Shellmo top modul.

This is the result of the last 10 days. At the top Sho's original RepWalker - still waiting for the gear motors. From left to right - my first design for hacked standard servos as gear motor including the h-bridge driver. In the middle some design changes - even left and right parts are different. At the right the last mutant RA03 with good fit of all parts.



Side view. Please notice: this is the left side (SF L = Side Fram Left) But I assembled the claws in wrong orientation ... its 1:00 at night already - will change this tomorrow



All parts are modified from Sho's original to make it an easy printable design. One big mod is to change the axis diameter from 4 to 5 mm. I also eliminated the spacer washers and used this space for extra reenforcement of the axis. In general I have made all parts a little thicker. This is no problem for home printing because material is not that expensive like with commercial printers. All parts are printed with a layer height of 0.5 mm and extrusion width of 0.6 mm. So even every uggly home made printer should make it! With this the design is more failure tolerant.
